EMPA

EMPA, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, is a leading interdisciplinary research institution within the ETH Domain. It conducts cutting-edge research in sustainable materials, energy systems, and the built environment, with a strong focus on transferring scientific knowledge into real-world applications.
Through research platforms such as the NEST Demonstrator, EMPA develops, tests, and demonstrates innovative solutions that support the transition towards climate neutrality, resource efficiency, and resilient urban infrastructures.

EMPAs contribution to ENERGENIUS

In ENERGENIUS, EMPA acts as one of the Leader Pilot sites through the NEST living lab, a modular and highly instrumented research building that offers a real operational environment for testing digital energy services.
EMPA supports pilot demonstration planning and preparation, while also engaging in stakeholder profiling, user engagement activities, and the assessment of needs across different building user groups.
By enabling the integration of real building and energy system data, EMPA facilitates the validation of user-centred solutions and sustainability recommendations.
Insights generated at the NEST demonstrator help inform and guide implementation and learning processes across other pilot regions.
